International Whales Protection Workshop, Geneva, 7 Nov 2023

Sat, 28 October, 2023

The World Shipping Council (WSC) is the united voice of liner shipping, working with policymakers and industry groups to shape the future growth of a socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, safe, and secure shipping industry. For many years, WSC has worked closely with NGOs and academics to support research to learn more about whales and their habits and find the best ways to protect them. They are also in close dialogue with governments, regional and local authorities and in the IMO to find ways to protect whales from ship strikes. More information about WSC can be found at

Please see below link for the presentation:

During the IMO Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) Workshop in London, representatives of WSC invited the GATERS team to present their activities regarding the promotion of reducing underwater radiated noise from shipping for the protection of marine mammals, including whales. Therefore, the GATERS project coordinator attended this workshop and presented the URN activities within GATERS in an online presentation entitled: “Quieting the Ship Propeller-Induced Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) & A Practical Way of Measuring URN”.
