The 7th AMT'23 CONFERENCE - Istanbul, 24-26 Oct. 2023

As part of the WP7 (Dissemination, Communication & Exploitation) activities of the GATERS project, the members participated in THE 7TH INT’L CONFERENCE ON THE ADVANCED MODEL MEASUREMENTTECHNOLOGY FOR THE MARITIME INDUSTRY (AMT'23) held at the Istanbul Technical University (ITU)during 24-26 October 2023 and disseminated the major GATERS outputs in the special GATERS Session of the conference (https://www.amt23.com/).

The GATERS special session was also broadcast all day on 25th October externally to the outside world as THE 2nd GATERS WEBINAR by the 14 technical papers presented by the GATERS members based on the main project outputs.

The AMT'23 Conference was the 7th occasion of the Int’l AMT Conference Series organised by the Hydrotesting Forum (HTF), which is the main sponsor of the AMT series and the University of Strathclyde as the Series Chair to promote and discuss the advanced model and full-scale marine measurements technologies and methods. The conference series has been held bi-annually since 2009and usually attracts around 100 plus attendees.

The 7th AMT offered a privilege to the GATERS project by allocating a full day on the second day of the conference in four session slots to disseminate and discuss the main project outputs of the GATERS project over 13 technical paper presentations.

The Conference Chair and the GATERS project coordinator, Professor Mehmet Atlar of Strathclyde University, and host Chair, Prof Emin Korkut of Istanbul Technical University, opened AMT'23 and attended around 110 delegates. The first and second days of the conference were covered by the technical paper presentations in the parallel two main sessions, following a keynote presentation by the JoRES Project coordinator, Dr Dmitriy Ponkratov, on the importance of the full-scale trials. While the third day of AMT'23 was allocated to the visit to the ITU experimental facilities, including their large cavitation tunnel ITUCAT (the 7th largest in the world), the social activities of the conference included a reception at the end of the 1st day and gala dinner at the end of the 2nd day.

Thirteen of the fourteen technical outputs of the GATERS project, which are listed below, were presented by several members of the project and discussed during the conference by the delegates, including the questions from the external webinar attendees. Following the AMT'23 Conference, the GATERS project had its 9th Steering Committee and 4th Annual General Meeting jointly held at the Faculty of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (NAOE) in ITU Conference Room on the afternoon of 26th October 2023. The members had to make a decision to extend the project beyond three years to complete all the tasks to meet the full objectives of GATERS.

Following the above meetings, GATERS had its 2nd Industry Advisory Board Meeting on 27th October at the ITU's NAOE Faculty to update the IAB members with the details of retrofitting the target vessel, MV ERGE and her performance in trials and voyages during the last five months.
